Trinseo Hong Kong carried out weeding for the Floral Conservation Department of Kadoorie Farm and Botanic Garden (KFBG) on October 14, 2023. 34 employees plus their families and friends volunteered a total of 102 hours of sweaty but meaningful conservation work at the Butterfly Garden. Weeds removed on the day were Wedelia trilobata and Reinwardtia indica, the growth of which would hindered other plant species’ conservation. The weeds collected were processed and transformed into fertilizer. From both the brief presented by the staff, and the guides’ elaboration during the weeding work, we learnt more about nature’s conservation, while enjoying the beautiful sight of butterflies of different species in the area.
KFBG is situated on the northern slopes of Tai Mo Shan, Hong Kong’s highest hill. With its decades-old, rigorous, science-based species conservation and ecosystem restoration, KFBG is a precious conserved area where the public can experience and connect with nature. Its Floral Conservation Department plays an important role at KFBG. Besides conserving native plant species, they are responsible for the holistic estate management which includes the upcycling of organic waste, the production of biochar and soil management. KFBG’s conservation and education facilities and programmes demonstrate how we can live sustainably while at the same time respecting nature and one another.
The event also provided quality bonding time for the colleagues at the Hong Kong office and the Tsing Yi site.
